Most drivers do not know what a differential is or how it works. Differentials are a system of gears located beneath your vehicle that transfers power from the transmission to its wheels. With regular usage, the fluid inside these differentials is subject to higher temperatures and pressure which break down the fluid causing it to become gummy and therefore losing its ability to lubricate the gear surfaces and bearings. This can cause bearing failure, the abnormal wearing of the gears, breakage or even locking up of the axle.
Severe driving conditions like stop and go driving in heavy traffic cause the fluid to break down even faster. Our differential services include changing the fluid every 30,000 miles. We can also use a synthetic fluid to bring it back to shape. Regularly scheduled maintenance is always cheaper than the cost of replacing a new differential.
